This is my ‘strapline’ if you like. It sums up the process of my art, from initial inspiration and ideas, to its creation and finally, the finished result. I’m constantly looking at the world around me. I can’t help but to observe things and my brain thinks, ‘How can I represent this as a painting?.’ Sometimes, honestly, I wish I could switch it off but the benefit is that it can lead to great ideas for compositions of paintings.
I create in pastel. Currently, this is my preferred medium. It feels very direct to pick up a piece of chalk and make marks straight onto the paper. I love it. It’s a versatile tool. You can make definite lines, so it’s like drawing but you can also blend the pastels with your finger or a blending tool which is more like painting.
I delight my customers. This feeling, of producing something that someone else truly loves, or is moved by, is a wonderful emotion. It is one heck of a motivator to produce more works that can give joy and really delight another person.
I’ll cover each of these things in more detail in subsequent blogs.
